Biography of Gleb Glebov

Gleb Glebov, born on April 29th (May 11th), 1899 in Voskresensk, Moscow province, was a renowned Soviet and Belarusian actor. He began his theatrical career in 1921 in traveling troupes in Ukraine. In 1926, he became an actor at the 1st Belarusian Drama Theater (now known as the Yanka Kupala National Academic Theater) in Minsk.

Acting Career

Glebov was known for his exceptional comedic talent and improvisation skills. His true talent emerged in the 1930s, and he went on to portray over 160 roles across various genres. Some of his most famous roles included Kroplya in "Konstantin Zaslonov" by A. Mavzona and Tulyaga in "Kto Smeyotsya Poslednim" by K. Krapiva. Many of his characters became iconic and well-known.

Accolades and Recognition

Glebov received several prestigious awards throughout his career. He was honored with the title of People's Artist of the Belarusian SSR in 1940 and received the title of People's Artist of the USSR in 1948. He was also a two-time laureate of the Stalin Prize, awarded in 1941 and 1948 for his theatrical work.

Other Endeavors

In addition to his stage career, Glebov worked in radio, where he gained popularity for his storytelling and performances of children's tales. He also ventured into cinema, appearing in films such as "Konstantin Zaslonov," "Naši Sosedi," "Polesskaya Legenda," "Strogaya Zhenshchina," "Pervye Ispytaniya," and "Vostochny Koridor," among others.

Later Years and Legacy

Glebov served as the artistic director of the Yanka Kupala National Academic Theater from 1941 to 1947. He was also a deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR during the 6th convocation. Known for his kindness on and off the stage, Glebov had the ability to captivate audiences and bring significance to even the smallest roles.

Gleb Glebov passed away on March 3rd, 1967, in Minsk, leaving behind a rich legacy in Soviet and Belarusian theater.
