Gloria Reuben, a Canadian singer and actress, was born on June 9, 1964, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Growing up in a family that embraced different traditions and national beliefs, Reuben developed a love for music from an early age, inspired by her mother who sang in a church choir. Her father worked as an architect. It is worth noting that Reuben is the sister of Denis Simpson, a well-known figure in television circles who is not only an actor but also the owner of a children's television channel.
Early Musical Education
From a young age, Reuben began to study music and piano. After completing high school, she continued her education at the Royal Conservatory of Canada. There, she honed her skills in performing musical compositions, jazz, and ballet.
Acting Career
Initially, Reuben worked as a model and appeared in supporting roles in various TV shows and series. Her first role in a feature film came in 1989 with the movie "Family Ties." The following year, she starred in the heroic series "The Flash." This was followed by several roles in typical films. In 1995, she was offered a role that would later bring her worldwide fame.
The TV series "ER" premiered on NBC in September 1994. After the pilot episode, it became clear that both the storyline and the actors were captivating to the audience, leading to the continuation of the project. Reuben portrayed the character of Jeanie Boulet, a physician assistant in one of the central hospitals. In the first season of the series, she appeared periodically on screen, but starting from the second season, Reuben was offered a permanent role. The filming of "ER" concluded in April 2009 after 15 seasons. The series is the longest-running medical drama in the history of American cinema and was broadcasted in prime time. It garnered 22 Emmy Awards and received 123 nominations, also a record.
In the storyline of the series, Reuben's character is diagnosed with HIV. Later, the actress revealed that it was her role in this series that drew her to actively participate in various charitable events aimed at combating HIV/AIDS. Currently, Reuben is involved in the TNT project called "Raising the Bar." Her last film appearance was in 2008 in the drama "The Double."
Continued Musical Pursuits
Reuben did not abandon her love for music. In 2000, she embarked on a joint tour with Tina Turner, where she performed as an opening act.
