The Beginning: New Century
Initially formed as "New Century," the band underwent significant lineup changes before settling into its most notable period, which began in 1999.
The Trio: Sergey, Dmitry, and Alexey
Sergey Morozov, Dmitry Tomarov, and Alexey Krylatov formed the core of the band in 1999. Sergey played acoustic guitar and wrote songs, Dmitry played lead guitar, and Alexey was the drummer.
Keyboard Experiments: Arthur Shurin
Arthur Shurin occasionally joined the group as a keyboardist, but his intermittent presence led to his departure. However, fate intervened, and he later reunited with Sergey and Dmitry at the Nizhny Novgorod State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering.
The New Century Ensemble
With the addition of Dmitry to the guitar lineup, the band found its rhythm. They rehearsed diligently, honing their sound and writing new songs such as "Cradle," "New Century," and "Door." They also began performing live.
Voiced in Water: Rebirth and Early Concerts
In early 2000, the band rebranded as "Voiced in Water." Their first concert as the new lineup took place at the Nautilus club in April. They also played at the Chkalov Children's Theater and the Art Club, where they shared the stage with "Skверное дело."
Playing for Pay: The 1000 Volt Experience
Seeking to expand their musical reach, the band booked gigs at the "1000 Volt" bar, where they honed their craft by playing covers before a live audience. However, academic commitments forced them to temporarily suspend their paid performances.
Hiatus and Rebirth
After several years of quiet, the band reconvened in 2001. However, bassist Andrey Dyundik left shortly thereafter. Several months later, Arthur Shurin rejoined on keyboards, completing the current lineup:
