Biography of Till Lindemann
Childhood and YouthTill Lindemann, the vocalist of the band Rammstein, was born on January 4, 1963, in Leipzig, former German Democratic Republic. He spent his childhood in the village of Wendisch-Rambow in East Germany. Till's parents, Brigitte and Werner Lindemann, were creative individuals. Brigitte was a painter and writer, while Werner was a well-known children's poet. Till also has a younger sister. Growing up, Till was exposed to literature from an early age, thanks to his father's extensive library, which included works by Mikhail Sholokhov, Leo Tolstoy, and Chingiz Aitmatov. Interestingly, Till's mother was a fan of Russian singer-songwriter Vladimir Vysotsky. It was only after the fall of the Iron Curtain that Till discovered Russian rock music. The nationality of the metal star has been a topic of debate among his fans, with some claiming he is German and others suggesting he has Jewish roots. Till himself has not commented on his origins. According to the vocalist, he had a difficult relationship with his father, who was an alcoholic and divorced his mother in 1975. Werner Lindemann passed away in 1993 due to alcohol poisoning. Till reportedly did not attend his father's funeral or visit his grave. Till attended a sports school in Rostock when he was 11 years old and then studied at a boarding school from 1977 to 1980. He excelled in swimming and even represented the German Democratic Republic in the European Championships. However, his sporting career was cut short due to a muscle strain. According to another version, Till was expelled from the sports school in 1979 after running away from a hotel in Italy with his girlfriend. This incident led to a police interrogation and made Till realize that he was living in a restricted and spy-filled country.
Music
Till Lindemann's musical career began in the German Democratic Republic when he was invited to join the punk band First Arsch as a drummer. It was during this time in Schwerin that he met Richard Kruspe, the future guitarist of Rammstein. Richard suggested the idea of starting their own musical project, despite Till not considering himself a talented musician. However, Till spent two years training in Berlin with a German opera star to develop his voice. He learned diaphragmatic breathing techniques and performed physical exercises while singing. This training helped him achieve the desired vocal sound and the ability to hold his breath for extended periods, which would later be useful during Rammstein's pyrotechnic performances. Till and Richard were later joined by Oliver Riedel and Christoph Schneider, and in 1994, Rammstein was formed in Berlin. The band gained international fame with their debut album "Herzeleid." While most popular bands sing in English, Till insisted that Rammstein perform exclusively in German. However, the band has released English songs, including a cover of Depeche Mode's "Stripped." Till's pronunciation of English lyrics is often criticized. Till writes all the lyrics for Rammstein's songs and has published poetry books titled "Messer" (2002) and "In stillen Nächten" (2013). He is known for combining romantic and poetic themes with dark and explicit imagery in his lyrics.
Personal Life
Known for his calm and kind nature, Till Lindemann enjoys spending time in nature, fishing, and taking walks in the woods. He has a passion for fishkeeping and pyrotechnics. Till even obtained a license to perform explosions after passing an exam. He has tattoos in unconventional places, including his buttocks. Till has been married twice. His first marriage, which resulted in a daughter named Nele, ended in divorce. After his divorce, his ex-wife Marika started a relationship with Rammstein guitarist Richard Kruspe. Till's second marriage, to Anja Köseling, also ended in a publicized divorce with allegations of infidelity, alcohol abuse, domestic violence, and unpaid alimony. Till prefers to keep his personal life private but has been linked to Ukrainian singer Svetlana Loboda. They met at a music festival in Baku, and rumors of their romance circulated in 2017. In 2018, Loboda announced her pregnancy without revealing the father's name, leading to speculation about their relationship. They have not publicly commented on the rumors. Despite his statement about not marrying Slavic beauties, Till continues to attract fans from Russia and Ukraine.
