Early Life and Youth Career

Giovanni dos Santos Ramírez was born on May 11, 1989, in Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico. His father, Gerardo dos Santos, known as "Zizinho," was a former professional footballer from Brazil who played for Mexican clubs such as América and León in the late 1980s. His mother, Liliana Ramírez, was from Mexico. dos Santos has two biological brothers and two half-brothers, including Eder, who played for América in Primera División.

Club Career

FC Barcelona

dos Santos's father played a crucial role in his development. He enrolled his son in the San Paolo School in Monterrey, where he coached him and other young players. In 2001, the San Paolo team participated in the Dallas Cup, a prestigious youth tournament in the United States. A 12-year-old dos Santos was part of the team that won the U-12 category.

He continued to excel, leading his teams to victories in the U-17 (2005) and U-20 (2007) categories. In the summer of 2007, dos Santos was invited to FC Barcelona's senior team for a trial. On August 29, 2007, he obtained dual citizenship and was officially added to the senior squad.

dos Santos made his La Liga debut on September 2, 2007, at the age of 18 years and 114 days, in a 3-1 win over Athletic Bilbao. He featured in his first Champions League match on September 19, 2007, against Lyon, coming on as a substitute for Xavi in the 79th minute of a 3-0 victory.

On May 17, 2008, dos Santos scored a hat-trick against Real Murcia, helping Barcelona secure a 5-3 win in their final match of the 2007-08 season. It was his last game for the club before he moved to Tottenham Hotspur.

Tottenham Hotspur

dos Santos completed a medical examination on June 10, 2008, and left Barcelona to join Tottenham Hotspur. The young Mexican made an immediate impact, scoring twice in Tottenham's 8-0 away win over Spanish side Tavernes in the 2008-09 UEFA Cup qualifiers. These were his first goals for the club.

He continued his goalscoring form in further qualifiers against Leyton Orient and Norwich City. However, dos Santos's form soon dipped, and even his lone goal in the UEFA Cup against Shakhtar Donetsk on February 26, 2009, failed to make a significant impact.

International Career

Giovanni dos Santos made his debut for the Mexico national team, "El Tri," under Hugo Sánchez against Guatemala. On June 24, 2009, in a friendly match against Venezuela, he scored his first two international goals and was named Man of the Match.
