Grigory Vasilyevich Bondar: The Ukrainian Surgeon

Early Life and Education

Grigory Vasilyevich Bondar was born on April 22, 1932, in Iskra, Ukraine. He graduated from the Donetsk State Medical Institute in 1957, earning his Doctor of Medical Sciences degree in 1972 and professorship in 1974.

Career in Surgery and Oncology

Bondar began his career as the Head of Surgery at the Donetsk Regional Clinical Hospital in 1959. From 1962 to 1967, he worked as an assistant professor in general surgery, followed by a position as associate professor in surgical diseases at the dental faculty.

In 1975, Bondar established the Department of Oncology at the Donetsk National Medical University, which later became the foundation for the Donetsk Regional Anti-Tumor Center. He served as the center's Director General and played a pivotal role in its development.

Research and Publications

Bondar is a prolific researcher and has published over 800 scientific papers, 15 monographs, 14 textbooks, and holds over 250 patents. His books, "Questions and Answers" and "Together We Will Conquer Cancer," have reached a wide audience.

Academic Leadership and Recognition

Under Bondar's guidance, 14 doctoral and 40 candidate dissertations have been defended. He is a member of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine and the Committee on State Prizes of Ukraine.

Awards and Honors

Bondar's contributions to medicine have earned him numerous accolades. In 2002, he was bestowed with the title of Hero of Ukraine for his exceptional service to the nation in the field of medical science. He has also received the Order of Prince Yaroslav the Wise, Order of Merit, Order of the Badge of Honor, and the Diploma of the European Parliament.

Family and Personal Life

Bondar is married to Alla Vasilievna, and they have two children, Vladimir and Natalia.
