Early Life and Education
Ahliman T. Amiraslanov was born on November 17, 1947, in Zod village, Armenia. He excelled academically, graduating from high school with honors in 1965. That same year, he enrolled in the Faculty of Medicine at the N. Narimanov Azerbaijan State Medical Institute in Baku.
Medical Career
During his medical studies, Amiraslanov worked as a healthcare professional at the City Oncology Clinic in Baku from 1969 to 1971. Upon graduating with distinction in 1971, he continued to serve at the clinic, first as an intern and later as the head of the surgical department.
In 1974, Amiraslanov pursued his specialization at the All-Union Oncology Scientific Center in Moscow. He earned his PhD in 1977 after successfully defending his dissertation on "Rehabilitation of Patients Undergoing Surgery for Malignant Tumors of the Lower Extremities."
Doctoral Dissertation and Awards
In 1984, Amiraslanov completed his doctoral dissertation on "Comprehensive Treatment Methods for Osteogenic Sarcoma." Recognition for his research followed, including the 1985 Petrov Prize from the Academy of Medical Sciences of the USSR for his monograph on "Bone Sarcoma."
In 1986, Amiraslanov's breakthrough contributions to cancer treatment were honored with the prestigious State Prize of the USSR in Science and Technology.
Leadership and Academic Achievements
From 1989 to 1992, Amiraslanov served as a professor in the Division of General Oncology at the All-Union Oncology Scientific Center. Under his guidance, 12 PhD and 5 doctoral students completed their studies.
In 1992, Amiraslanov was appointed the rector of N. Narimanov Azerbaijan Medical University. Through a competitive selection process, he became the head of the university's Oncology Department in 1993.
Political Involvement
Amiraslanov served as a deputy in the Parliament of the Republic of Azerbaijan from 1990 to 1995. In 2010, he was elected to the Milli Mejlis (National Assembly) of Azerbaijan.
Scientific Contributions
Amiraslanov is a prolific author, publishing over 450 scientific works, including 18 monographs, 28 textbooks and manuals, 16 patents, 20 methodological recommendations, and numerous popular science articles. He has delivered guest lectures at international conferences in the United States, France, Japan, Italy, Sweden, Turkey, and many other countries.
His advancements in the treatment of musculoskeletal tumors, breast cancer, and internal organ malignancies have earned him worldwide recognition. Under his leadership, the clinic he manages has successfully performed highly complex surgical procedures.
International Affiliations and Accolades
Amiraslanov is an active member of the World Association of Oncologists and Orthopaedic Traumatologists, the European Society for Musculoskeletal Oncology, and the American Society of Clinical Oncology. He is also a corresponding member of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan (2001) and the Polish Academy of Medical Sciences (1998), and a foreign member of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences.
