Grigory Gagarin: A Prominent Figure in Russian Nobility
Early Life and HeritageGrigory Gagarin, the illustrious leader of the Russian Noble Assembly, was born on October 2, 1945, in Villejuif, a suburb of Paris, in a family of Russian émigrés. Descended from the Rurik dynasty, he is a direct descendant of the legendary Grand Princes Vladimir Monomakh, Yuri Dolgoruky, and Vsevolod the Big Nest.
Education and Career
Gagarin received two higher educations. In 1971, he graduated from Chelyabinsk Polytechnic Institute, where he was retained as an instructor. In 1993, he earned a second degree from the All-Union Correspondence Polytechnic Institute in Moscow. His professional career spanned various engineering and construction roles, including positions at Chelyabinsk Polytechnic Institute, South Ural Engineering Survey Trust, and Uralspetsenergoremont-Holding.
Involvement in the Russian Nobility
In 2002, Gagarin joined the Russian Noble Assembly, where he became a member of the 5th part of the organization's genealogy record. He played an active role in the Chelyabinsk Regional Noble Assembly from 1999 and served as its leader until 2008. In May 2005, he was elected to the Council of United Nobility, attending all subsequent meetings.
Leadership of the Russian Noble Assembly
At the 12th All-Russian Noble Congress in 2008, Gagarin was elected as the Assembly's Leader for the term 2008-2011. This election was followed by a second term from 2011-2014. In August 2007, he gained the approval of Grand Duchess Maria Vladimirovna Romanova as a potential future leader of the Assembly.
Other Notable Achievements
Gagarin has participated in numerous cultural and social initiatives. In 2011, he signed an appeal to the Russian government regarding cultural policy. He is also a member of the Imperial Orthodox Palestine Society.
Awards and Honors
Gagarin has received numerous awards from the Russian government, the Russian Orthodox Church, and the Russian Imperial House. These include the Order of Saint Daniel of Moscow, the Order of Saint Anna, and the Golden Honorary Badge of Nikolai Rumyantsev. He has also been recognized by the unrecognized state of Pridnestrovie with the Order of Honor and other commemorative medals.
