Early Life and Education
Grigory R. Ginzburg was born on May 16 (29th in the new style calendar), 1904, in Nizhny Novgorod. He commenced his piano studies at an early age and later pursued his education at the Moscow Conservatory under the renowned pianist Alexander Goldenweiser.
International Recognition and Acclaim
In 1927, Ginzburg participated in the inaugural International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw, where he was awarded the fourth prize. His performances drew the attention of renowned pianist and musicologist Grigory Kogan, who praised Ginzburg's remarkable virtuosity and exceptional musicality.
Philosophy of Performance
Ginzburg believed that true virtuosity was an expression of genuine musical understanding. He sought to convey the essence of the music through precise articulation and flawless execution. He avoided excessive technical displays that compromised the integrity of the musical discourse.
Teaching and Legacy

In recognition of his outstanding contributions to music, Ginzburg was awarded the Stalin Prize Second Degree in 1949 and was designated as a Honored Artist of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic in 1946.

Grigory Ginzburg passed away on December 5, 1961, in Moscow and was buried at the Donskoye Cemetery. His death marked the departure of a legendary figure in Russian pianism.
