She was born into a family of economists and activists of the socialist movement, Juanita Heller and Juan Manuel Argerich. Her maternal grandparents were Jewish immigrants from Russia who settled in one of the agricultural colonies of Baron de Hirsch and the Jewish Colonization Society in the province of Entre Rios.

Early Life and Musical Education

Argerich began playing the piano at the age of three and made her public debut at the age of eight, performing Mozart's concerto. In 1955, her family moved to Europe, and Martha studied under renowned pianists such as Friedrich Gulda, Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli, and Stefan Askenazy.

Recognition and Achievements

In 1957, Argerich won the International Music Competition in Geneva and the International Piano Competition in honor of Busoni. In 1965, she became the winner of the International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw.
