Gunther Netzer - German footballer

Gunther Netzer was a German football player, known for his attacking midfield position. His colorful playing style matched his eccentric appearance, with his long blond hair always catching the eye on the football field. Netzer was born on September 14, 1944, in Monchengladbach, Germany. He started his career at Monchengladbach in 1952 and played for Borussia Monchengladbach from 1963 to 1973. Netzer also played for Real Madrid from 1973 to 1976 and Grasshoppers in 1976-1977. In his Bundesliga career, he played 230 games and scored 82 goals. He represented the German national team in 37 matches, scoring 6 goals. His first match was against Austria on October 9, 1965, and his last match was against Greece on October 11, 1975. Netzer had a successful career, winning the European Championship in 1972, the World Cup in 1974, and the German Championships in 1970, 1971, and the Spanish Championships in 1975 and 1976. He also won the German Cup in 1973 and the Spanish Cup in 1974. Netzer was named the best football player in Germany in 1972 and 1973 and was the recipient of the "Silver Ball" award in 1972. He retired from professional football and pursued a career as a manager. Netzer worked as a manager for Hamburg from 1978 to 1986, leading the team to three Bundesliga titles and a European triumph in 1983.
