Early Life and Education

Born in Germany, the prominent historian and archaeologist joined the esteemed Anenerbe organization. His academic pursuits began at a preparatory school, where he excelled in humanities. He continued his studies at prestigious universities in Marburg, Göttingen, Bonn, and Berlin, specializing in classical philology and archaeology.

Joining Anenerbe

In 1909, he earned his doctorate and embarked on a distinguished career. By 1911, he became an assistant at the Central Roman-Germanic Museum in Mainz. During this period, he also actively participated in the Birkenfeld Antiquities Society.

In 1922, he assumed the role of Curator of Historical Monuments for the Rhine-Hesse region. Five years later, he ascended to the position of Director of the Central Roman-Germanic Museum.
