Khalhin-Gol: A Band Reborn
Early BeginningsKhalhin-Gol emerged from the ashes of the experimental rock band "Alternativnaya Kosmonavtika." In 1996, the initial lineup featured Андрей Азирбаев (bass and songwriting), Сергей Конищев (drums), Зохрат Шагабутдинова (vocals), Мамед Садых-Пур (keyboards and flute), and Юрий Корнеев (guitar). recording their debut album, "Smeшные Желания," at the "Kazakhfilm" studio, collaborating with guitarist Сергей Черезов. The band performed at various venues in Almaty and participated in several festivals before disbanding in 1997.
A New Era
In 1998, Khalhin-Gol reconvened with a significantly altered lineup: Андрей Азирбаев (acoustic guitar and songwriting), Сергей Конищеv (drums), Алексей Огай (bass), Жандарбек Бакиров (keyboards), Дмитрий Белов (guitar), and Екатерина Лукина (vocals). Their musical direction shifted towards live performances, and they quickly established themselves as a respected force in Almaty's rock scene.
Recognition and Acclaim
In 1999, they initiated recording an album at "APM" studio, but financial constraints hindered its professional mixing, ultimately relegating it to a demo status. Their live concerts continued to captivate audiences, with notable performances including sharing the stage with "Akvarium," "Agata Kristi," and "Alisa" in 1999, alongside "No-Gu Svelo" in 2000, and participating in the "Rock-Master" festival in 2000 with "Vopli Vydoplyasova" and "Mumiy Troll."
A Departure
In July 2001, Андрей Азирбаев bid farewell to the band, choosing to reside in the United States. Despite his departure, Khalhin-Gol has maintained an active concert schedule, refining their repertoire, honing their musicianship, and continuously exploring new creative frontiers.
