Early Life and Career

Hans Last, better known as James Last, was born on April 17, 1929, in Bremen, Germany. His first public performance came in 1946 as a member of a dance orchestra on "Radio Bremen." From 1950 to 1952, he was recognized as the best jazz bassist of the year.

Formation of the James Last Orchestra

In 1964, Last established his own orchestra and began creating dance arrangements of popular melodies by various artists. The orchestra's debut album, "Non-Stop Dancing" (1965), was an instant success.

Commercial Success

Over the years, the James Last Orchestra released more than 50 albums that sold over 60 million copies worldwide. 37 of these albums achieved "gold" status, and 18 were certified "platinum." Last's arrangements showcased a wide range of musical styles, from traditional folk music to alternative rock, hard rock, soul, and electronic music.
