Early Life and Education
Grigor Artashes Gevorkyan was born on July 10, 1927, in Yerevan, Armenian SSR. He studied philosophy at Yerevan State University from 1945 to 1950 and completed his postgraduate studies there from 1952 to 1956.
Academic Career
ResearchFrom 1956, Gevorkyan embarked on a research career at the Institute of Philosophy, Sociology, and Law of the Academy of Sciences of the Armenian SSR (later the Academy of Sciences of Armenia). He served in various roles, including senior researcher, head of research group, department head, and chief researcher. From 1992 to 1996, he was Director of the Institute.
Teaching
In addition to his research, Gevorkyan taught at the Faculty of Philosophy at Yerevan State University from 1962 to 1980. In 1972, he became a professor there.
Research Interests
Gevorkyan's research focused on philosophy, logic, and the methodology of the humanities and science. He investigated the methodological issues of the history of Armenian philosophy, critically analyzed gnoseological doctrines in Eastern and Western philosophy, and explored the philosophy of culture and history.
Academic Achievements
In 1956, Gevorkyan defended his PhD thesis, "Probable and Reliable Knowledge." In 1971, he earned his Doctor of Philosophical Sciences degree for his dissertation on the same topic. In 1972, the Higher Attestation Commission of the USSR awarded him the title of Professor. In 1986, he was elected a Corresponding Member of the Academy of Sciences of the Armenian SSR, and in 1996, he became a Full Member of the Academy of Sciences of Armenia.
Publications
Gevorkyan authored over 110 scientific works and monographs, contributing to the field of philosophy and its various branches.
