Azaria began his acting career by portraying Hamlet in a university production of "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead". He later attended Tufts University, where he continued to perform successfully on stage in plays such as "Uncle Vanya", "The Merchant of Venice", and "The Dumb Waiter".
