Early Life and EducationHannah Simone is an English-Canadian actress, television host, and former model. She is best known for her role as Cecilia 'Cece' Parekh in the comedy series "New Girl." Simone was born in London, England to an Indian father and a mother of German, Italian, and Cypriot descent. She spent her early years in Calgary, Alberta and had a nomadic lifestyle, living and studying on three continents during her childhood. She resided in Saudi Arabia, Greece, Canada, and India, where she received her basic education and began her acting career in amateur productions.
Modeling Career
At the age of 13, Simone settled in Cyprus, where she started working as a model and appeared on the covers of several local fashion magazines. By the age of 16, she moved to New Delhi, India, and then returned to Canada at 17, first settling in White Rock, British Columbia, and later in Vancouver. Simone obtained her education at the University of British Columbia, specializing in international relations and political science. She later earned another Bachelor's degree in television and radio from Ryerson University.
Career in Politics and Media
Simone worked as a researcher for two years under the supervision of Lloyd Axworthy, the former Minister of Foreign Affairs in Jean Chrétien's government. She then moved to the United Kingdom, where she volunteered for UN projects, specializing in civil rights advocacy and aid for the underprivileged. During her time at Ryerson, Simone actively worked for a local radio station and developed a keen interest in the media industry.
Television Career
After graduating in 2005, Simone became a host for the Canadian television channel HGTV's show "Space for Living." She later became a VJ for "MuchMusic," hosting shows such as "Much News Weekly" and "The NewMusic." Her work mainly focused on youth-oriented projects, allowing her to engage with alternative music artists and conduct interviews with various performers and bands. Simone left "MuchMusic" on November 21, 2008, contemplating a move to Los Angeles.
Current Work
In May 2009, Simone began hosting the SyFy channel's show "WCG Ultimate Gamer" alongside Joel Gourdin. The show aired for two seasons before concluding in October 2010. Currently, Hannah Simone is best known for her role as Cecilia 'Cece' Parekh in the popular comedy series "New Girl" on Fox. Her character is the best friend of the main protagonist, Zooey Deschanel's character, and serves as a love interest for one of the other characters. Simone recently completed work on the set of the second series "H+," a collaborative project between Warner Premiere Digital Web and Dolphin Entertainment, under the direction of television producer and director Bryan Singer. Although she has stepped away from modeling, Simone occasionally appears in advertisements, such as her 2013 commercial for the "Gillette Body Grooming Razor."
