Great Escape RoleHans Mesmer was a German actor best known for his role as the Commandant in the 1963 film "The Great Escape." The film boasted a star-studded cast, and Mesmer, though relatively unknown compared to his fellow actors, delivered one of the most memorable lines in the movie (to Steve McQueen's Captain Hilts): "It seems I shall see you in Berlin before you see me."
Wartime Experience
Prior to his acting career, Mesmer served on the Eastern Front during World War II. He was captured by Soviet forces and held as a prisoner of war.
