German Conductor and Musicologist

German conductor and musicologist, studied natural science at the University of Tübingen before pursuing musicology at the Stuttgart College of Music under Hermann Keller. He later taught at the same institution, where one of his notable students was Helmuth Rilling.

Founder and Conductor

In the 1920s and 1930s, he established and led several choral societies. From 1945 to 1950, he founded and became the first chief conductor of the Swabian Symphony Orchestra in Reutlingen.

Specialist in Bach's Choral Works

Known for his expertise in the choral works of Johann Sebastian Bach, he organized and conducted performances of the "St. Matthew Passion" and "St. John Passion" in their original versions (without later abridgements), using historical instruments and other authentic practices.
