Partnership with Zhang Dan
Hao Zhang and Zhang Dan became a pair in 1997. Although they are not related, the surname "Zhang" is very common in China. Almost immediately, they found success, taking first and second places in the Junior Grand Prix events, and then finishing fifth in the Junior Grand Prix Final. They also won silver in 2000 and bronze in 2001 at the Chinese Championships.

Firsts and Injuries
At the 2000 Junior World Championships, Zhang and Dan became the first skaters to successfully perform a quadruple twist in competition. However, at the 2006 Olympics in Turin, while attempting a throw quadruple Salchow, Zhang Dan fell and suffered an injury. Despite this setback, they continued their performance, successfully completing the rest of their elements and winning the silver medal.
Continued Success
In the 2008-2009 season, Zhang and Dan won both Grand Prix events they participated in: the Cup of Russia and the Cup of China. However, they finished second in the Grand Prix Final, losing to their fellow countrymen Pang Qing and Tong Jian.
