Harold Grieve, born in 1901 in Los Angeles, California, was a renowned artist, set decorator, and designer in the early days of the film industry. He attended Hollywood High School before pursuing his passion for art at the School of Illustration and Painting in Los Angeles, under the guidance of John Francis Smith.

Grieve made his debut in the movie industry in the early 1920s, working as an artist and set decorator. His first notable film was the 1923 production of 'Scaramouche', followed by his contribution to 'The Thief of Bagdad' the following year. Grieve soon became one of the founding members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, leaving his mark on Hollywood's artistic landscape.

In the early 1930s, Grieve secured a position at a studio specializing in interior designs for film sets. In 1932, his wife, the silent film star Jetta Goudal, joined him in this endeavor. The couple collaborated on various projects, including designing the interiors for Bing Crosby's studio and creating the sets for Lily Pons' 'Toujours Eblouissante' and 'Architectural Digest'.

Grieve also worked with Colleen Moore, famously designing the elaborate dollhouse that toured the United States and is now on display at Chicago's Museum of Science and Industry. His contributions to the film industry can be seen in movies such as 'Lady Windermere's Fan' (1935), 'The Sea Wolf', and 'Wild Oats Lane' (1926).
