On July 22, 2010, it was announced that the English club 'Newcastle United' was keen on signing Ben Arfa. While the club's agents denied these rumors, Ben Arfa's agent confirmed the interest. German clubs 'Hoffenheim' and 'Werder Bremen', Turkish club 'Galatasaray', and Italian club 'A.C. Milan' were also interested in signing Ben Arfa. Negotiations began, but Marseille demanded a transfer fee that Newcastle was unwilling to pay. Nevertheless, Ben Arfa no longer wanted to play for Marseille due to strained relationships with his teammates and club management. Eventually, on August 27, a compromise was reached, and Newcastle signed Ben Arfa on loan for a year with the option to buy. During his early days at Newcastle, Ben Arfa suffered a double leg fracture due to a reckless tackle by an opponent. He took time to recover from the injury, and Newcastle officially completed his permanent transfer during this period.
