Biography of Heather Headley
Heather Headley (born October 5, 1974) is a Trinidadian singer in the genres of R&B and soul, songwriter, record producer, and actress. She began singing music in her native Trinidad at the age of four, preferring genres such as calypso, reggae, and soca. In 1998, at the age of fifteen, she moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA with her father, mother, and brother.

Headley attended Northrop High School, where she was a member of the school choir. After high school, she enrolled at Northwestern University, studying communication and musical theater. However, she left university after three years to participate in the musical 'Ragtime'.

In September 2003, Headley married Brian Musso, a former player for the New York Jets and her old acquaintance from Northwestern University.

Headley's acting career began in 1997 when she played Nala in the Broadway musical 'The Lion King'. She then earned a place in the Broadway production of 'Aida', which won her a Tony Award for Best Actress in 2000. She also appeared in 'Do Re Mi' and performed in a concert version of 'Dreamgirls' alongside Audrey McDonald and Lillias White.
In 2006, Headley performed a song from the 1968 musical 'Promises, Promises' for a special project dedicated to playwright Neil Simon. She also performed with Andrea Bocelli in Italy and sang at the inauguration ceremony of Barack Obama in 2009.
Headley released her debut album, 'This Is Who I Am', in October 2002 under RCA Records. The album received Grammy nominations for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance and Best New Artist. Her second album, 'In My Mind', was delayed due to administrative issues but was eventually released in January 2006. The title track became her first number one on the Hot Dance Club Songs chart.
