Biography of Hélène Ségara (Hélène Rizzo)
Hélène Ségara (Hélène Rizzo) was born on February 26, 1971, in Si-Four-Les-Plages, a small town in the Var department, on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea, into an Italian-Armenian family. From a young age, Hélène had a dream of buying a small island populated with dolphins, wolves, and other animals, where she could settle with her friends and be protected by the whole world.
Early Career
At the age of eleven, Hélène participated in a competition and won by performing Nana Mouskouri's song "L'amour en héritage". In 1993, she released her first single, "Loin", but it did not achieve any success. It was only in 1996 that Hélène decided to move to Paris to give herself a real chance to achieve something bigger in her career.
Breakthrough and Success
In Paris, Hélène met Fabrizio Salvadori, who introduced her to Orlando, the brother and producer of Dalida, and was deeply impressed by Hélène's voice. He decided to take charge of her career, starting by making her lose 6kg and completely changing her appearance. Her first single, "Je vous aime adieu", became very popular and even received the Rolf Marbot Award, presented by SACEM in the spring of 1997. This song was included in her debut album, which sold over 600,000 copies.
Role in "Notre-Dame de Paris"
In 1997, Hélène landed the role of Esmeralda in the musical "Notre-Dame de Paris" by Luc Plamondon and Richard Cocciante. However, in 1999, Hélène had to leave the musical due to vocal issues. While on tour in Quebec, she lost her voice and was diagnosed with a cyst on her vocal cords. She urgently needed surgery. Doctors told Hélène that if she wanted to sing again someday, she should not speak for at least three weeks and needed a lot of rest. She spent a long time in New York City to recover her voice.
Comeback and Continued Success
During her recovery, Hélène's musicians recorded the music for her second album, although she was unsure if she would be able to perform the songs on the record. However, her fears were unfounded. Her single "Il y a trop de gens qui t'aiment", released in late 1999, announced Hélène Ségara's great comeback and immediately reached the top of the charts in France, Belgium, and Switzerland.
Achieving Her Dream
Throughout her career, Hélène has remained passionate about her dream of buying a small island with dolphins, wolves, and other animals, where she can settle with her friends and feel protected by the whole world.
