Fifteen-year-old Haitian girl, Hennglise Dorvial, captured the world's attention due to a massive tumor on her face. For years, Hennglise suffered from a disfigured face caused by a large and debilitating tumor. A Life Altered by a Debilitating Tumor

Born and raised in Haiti, Hennglise Dorvial is a fifteen-year-old girl who has faced unimaginable challenges. Her face was severely deformed by a massive tumor, distorting the left side of her face beyond recognition. Looking at the pre-surgery photos of Hennglise, it is almost impossible to believe what a child could have endured. Moreover, her prospects were bleak, as her family was not financially capable of affording expensive plastic surgery. One can only imagine the anguish Hennglise experienced at the age of fifteen, seeing her disfigured face instead of enjoying the beauty and vitality of her youth.

The Arrival of Hope

Fortunately, a ray of hope shone upon Hennglise. She caught the attention of the international pediatric medical charity, 'Operation Smile,' which swiftly came to her aid. Soon after, she was sent to the United States, specifically Virginia, where surgeons undertook the task of removing the grotesque tumor from her face. The tumor was identified as an ameloblastoma, a benign growth. However, regardless of its nature, Hennglise was understandably anxious before the operation. Her greatest fear was that, after the surgery, she would still see the same disfigurement in the mirror that she had witnessed for the past years.

A New Beginning

Fortunately, her fears did not come true. The tumor was successfully removed, weighing an astonishing two kilograms. The relieved surgeons informed Hennglise that she was fortunate as the tumor had not invaded the base of her skull, which could have complicated both the operation and its consequences. It is too early to speak of beauty, as Hennglise will require additional plastic surgeries to restore her face to normal. Her left eye is likely to remain blind. Nevertheless, both Hennglise and her family are overjoyed. Though she may still have some facial defects, she now resembles a normal teenager.
