Louis-François Aubry, a renowned French artist, was born in the 18th century. His artistic journey began under the tutelage of the esteemed Jean Baptiste Regnault.
Historical and Domestic Scenes
Initially, Aubry focused on historical paintings and depictions of everyday life. He masterfully captured the grandeur of historical events and the tranquility of domestic scenes.
Invitation to Russia
In 1810, Aubry's talents caught the attention of the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts in Russia. Based on his impressive works, including "The Death of Hector," "Girl with a Butterfly," and "Boy with a Hare," he was admitted as an "assigned member."
Transition to Portraiture
Over time, Aubry transitioned to portraiture as his primary genre. He excelled in lithography, creating portraits based on his own sketches and those of other artists. His skill in capturing the likeness and personality of his subjects was evident in his numerous portrait commissions.
