Biography of Herbert Hainer

Herbert Hainer, a German top manager and sports official, served as the CEO of Adidas AG from 2001 to 2016. In November 2019, he was elected as the president of FC Bayern Munich, succeeding Uli Hoeness.

Early Life and Career

Prior to studying business administration at the University of Applied Sciences in Landshut, Hainer worked in his family's butcher shop. After completing his education, he opened his own bar. His dream was to become a professional football player, and he joined the football club "Ottering," which played in the district league and once made it to the first round of the German Football Cup in the 1980/81 season. Realizing that he couldn't achieve his goal of playing professional football, Hainer left the club.

In 1979, Hainer became a marketing manager at the German division of Procter & Gamble. In 1987, he joined Adidas and started as a sales manager for bags, rackets, and balls. He held various managerial positions before entering the executive board in 1997 and being appointed deputy chairman in 1999. In March 2001, he became the CEO of Adidas AG, a position he held until 2016.

Other Roles and Activities

Herbert Hainer is a member of the supervisory boards of Bayerische Versicherungsbank and Lufthansa. He also serves on the board of directors of the consulting company Accenture. Until 2011, he was a member of the supervisory board of Engelhorn. He is currently the chairman of the supervisory board of FC Bayern München AG.

Hainer left the executive board of Adidas AG on September 30, 2016. He was succeeded by Kasper Rorsted, who stepped down as the CEO of Henkel.

Presidency of FC Bayern Munich

In August 2019, Uli Hoeness announced that he would no longer run for president of FC Bayern Munich. In November of the same year, the club's board unanimously nominated Herbert Hainer as a candidate for the presidency. He was elected as the new president of the club at the annual general meeting on November 15, 2019.

Personal Life

Herbert Hainer is married and has a daughter. He lives with his family in Herzogenaurach, Franconia. His brother Walter Hainer was a professional football player in Munich 1860, for which he played three matches in the Bundesliga.
