A History of Courage
Lister was diagnosed with reflex sympathetic dystrophy as a teenager, gradually losing mobility in her extremities. By the age of 28, she had become quadriplegic. Yet, her unwavering determination propelled her to pursue her lifelong dream of sailing.
A Solo Voyage
In September 2009, Lister embarked on a solitary voyage, covering approximately 60 miles per day and stopping at night for rest. Using a straw connected to a computer that controlled her 20-foot yacht, she navigated by blowing into the tube.
A Team Effort
Lister's support team monitored her progress nightly and towed her into port before returning her to her last known location in the morning. Upon her arrival in Dover, she exclaimed, "It's an amazing feeling to be home, but I'm already looking forward to my next challenge."

After receiving an implant in her spinal cord in September 2015, Lister began to experience tingling sensations in her hands and arms. "It's like magic," she said. "I can sense movement in my shoulders, and the twitching in my hands is increasing."
