Biography of Holland Taylor

Holland Taylor, an American actress, was born on January 14, 1943, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. She grew up in a family of an artist and a lawyer, with two older sisters. After graduating from school, Taylor attended Bennington College and then moved to New York to pursue a career in acting.

Theater Career

Taylor started her career in the theater industry and appeared in numerous plays from the 1960s to the 1980s. Many of her performances took place on Broadway, including her role as the lead in the famous play "The Cocktail Hour" and the ill-fated Broadway production of "Moose Murders," where she replaced actress Eva Arden after just one week of rehearsals.

In 1983, after her performance in "Breakfast with Les and Bess," renowned theater critic John Simon stated that anyone who sees Taylor in that play would be crazy not to be obsessed with her, just like he was. While pursuing her theater career, she also made appearances in television series.

Television and Film Career

Taylor had her first notable role in television in 1978, playing the highly negative character Denise Cavanaugh in the long-running soap opera "The Edge of Night." She later appeared in the sitcom "Bosom Buddies" in the 1980s, alongside Tom Hanks, and had a supporting role in the film "Romancing the Stone" (1984).

After several years of traveling between New York and California, Taylor decided to settle in California. By this time, her fame had reached significant heights, and her name as an actress became highly sought-after in both comedy and drama. She appeared in various television series, including "The Powers That Be" (1992-1993), "The Naked Truth" (1995-1998), and "The Practice" (1998-2003), where she portrayed Judge Kittleson and received two Emmy nominations, one of which she won for Best Supporting Actress.

Taylor received her next Emmy nomination for her role as Evelyn Harper, the overbearing mother of the main characters in the series "Two and a Half Men." She received three more Emmy nominations for her roles in "The Lot" (the last of which was in 2008). She is also known among Russian audiences for her role as the "mean professor" in the film "Legally Blonde," as well as for her roles as the grandmother in "Spy Kids 2" and "Spy Kids 3" and the colorful character Beatrice in "George of the Jungle."

Additionally, Taylor worked with the animated film industry, providing voice-over work for "Cinderella II" and "Cinderella III: A Twist in Time" by Disney. Despite her success on screen, Taylor has not abandoned the theater and is currently working on a play about Texas Governor Ann Richards, which is set to be released in 2009.
