The Founding Members
Hailing from a musically inclined environment, the members of the rock band Hlam forged their bonds in their formative years. Vasiliy, Nikita, and Boris all attended the same school, with Nikita and Vasiliy sharing the same classroom.
Nikita "Nayk" Gusev
Born on October 30, 1985, Nikita developed a fascination for guitar at the tender age of eight. Despite an unfortunate incident involving a severed string, he rekindled his passion for the instrument at age 14, thanks to a guitar borrowed from a classmate. His musical journey continued with a Roytek Telecaster copy, which met its demise during a memorable performance in Orlandina.
Zhenya "Jigga" Zhuravlev
Born on June 29, 1985, Zhenya's first encounter with guitar at age 15 ignited his determination to become a musician, despite his initial lack of talent. He and Nikita were acquaintances but rarely interacted. Inspired by Nikita's performance of "Oksana" at a party, Zhenya proposed they form a band together.
Vasiliy "Bassil" Petelin
Born on April 23, 1985, Vasiliy's seven years of musical education did not diminish his love for good music. Besides playing in bands, he pursued his education at St. Petersburg State Polytechnic University.
Boris Kharin
Boris, born on February 4, 1985, joined the group as a beer-drinking, somewhat aimless character.
The Band's Evolution
The band initially went by the name P.S.M., which had different interpretations depending on the mood: "Pidary Sosut Molcha" (Faggots Suck Silently), "Pizdi Samykh Malen'kikh" (Fuck the Tiniest), or "Pokoysya S Mirom" (Rest in Peace). Boris eventually left the band due to creative differences, and the drummer moved to Murmansk, leading to the band's dissolution.
The Rebirth of Hlam
Zhenya and Nikita remained committed to playing together, and Boris offered his services as bass guitarist. They were joined by Ilya, a guitarist "borrowed" from the band Karma. Their rehearsals were often accompanied by drunken debauchery and destruction, which gave rise to the band's name, "Hlam," meaning "junk" or "clutter."
Concert Revelations
Hlam's first concert, held on September 6, 2003, at the club Ulitsa, was a spirited affair despite the poor sound quality. They quickly became regulars at Club Pyatnitsa, a reputation tarnished by Boris's drunken behavior at a concert in Orlandina.
The Continued Legacy
Following Boris's departure, Vasiliy returned to the band. Hlam continued to perform, becoming a notable presence in the St. Petersburg rock scene. They have released numerous albums and toured extensively, establishing themselves as a respected force in Russian rock.
