Biography of Ho Ching
Ho Ching is the Executive Director of Temasek Holdings, a company that manages over $100 billion in assets and is owned by the Singapore Ministry of Finance. She is also the wife of Singapore's Prime Minister, Lee Hsien Loong, who is the son of former Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew.
Early Life and Education
Ho Ching was born on March 27, 1953, in Singapore. She is the eldest of four children of businessman Ho Eng Hong and Chan Chiew Pin. She completed her pre-university education at National Junior College, where she was named "Student of the Year" and received the President's Scholarship. Ho Ching then graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical) with honors from the University of Singapore in 1976. She later obtained a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University in the United States.
Professional Career
Ho Ching started her career as an engineer in the Ministry of Defense. In 1987, she joined the Singapore Technologies Group as Deputy Director of Technology and later became the President and CEO of the company until her departure in 2001. In May 2002, she joined Temasek Holdings, where she currently serves as the Managing Director and CEO.
Accomplishments
Ho Ching has been recognized for her outstanding achievements in the field of science and technology. In 1995, she received the Distinguished Engineering Alumnus Award for her contributions to the industry. She is also an Honorary Fellow of the Institution of Engineers, Singapore.
In addition to her business career, Ho Ching is involved in various philanthropic activities. She has served on the boards of several organizations, including the National Research Foundation and the Singapore Exchange.
Recognition
In 2007, Forbes magazine ranked Ho Ching as the third most powerful woman in business outside of the United States. She had previously been ranked 11th in 2005, 5th in 2004, and 10th in 2003.
Personal Life
On December 17, 1985, Ho Ching married Lee Hsien Loong, who later became the third Prime Minister of Singapore in August 2004. They have two children together.
