Biography of Horia Tecau

Horia Tecau is a Romanian tennis player who reached the final of the Wimbledon men's doubles tournament in 2010. He started playing tennis at the age of seven and quickly showed promise. In 2003, at the junior level, he won the Wimbledon doubles tournament.

Early Career

In the same year, Tecau made his professional debut. In 2008, he teamed up with fellow Romanian Florin Mergea and made his first appearance in the main draw of a Grand Slam tournament at the French Open, reaching the second round.

First ATP Final

In 2009, Tecau reached his first ATP final. He first reached the final of the tournament in Kitzbuhel, Austria, partnering with Andrei Pavel. He followed this up with another final appearance in Stuttgart, playing with Victor Hanescu.

First ATP Title

In January 2010, Tecau achieved his first ATP title at the Auckland Open, winning alongside local tennis player Marcus Daniel. He then went on to win the Casablanca tournament in April, teaming up with Swedish player Robert Lindstedt. Their successful partnership continued in June when they won the title on the grass courts of Hertogenbosch.

Wimbledon Final

Immediately after their victory in Hertogenbosch, Tecau and Lindstedt participated in the Wimbledon tournament. They reached the final, marking a career first for Tecau. Seeded 16th, they defeated the fourth and eleventh-seeded pairs along the way but ultimately lost in the final to Jurgen Melzer and Philipp Petzschner.

Continued Success

Following Wimbledon, Tecau and Lindstedt won another tournament in Bastad, Sweden. In August, they emerged victorious at the New Haven tournament. These victories marked the fifth in Tecau's career and in the 2010 season.
