Biography of Hosni Mubarak
Hosni Mubarak was born on May 4, 1928, in Egypt. His father was a small landowner and worked as an inspector in the legal department.

Early Career
In 1949, Mubarak graduated with honors from a military college and a year later from the Egyptian Air Force Academy. He then continued his studies in Moscow. Upon returning to Egypt, he commanded squadrons and later a brigade. From 1965 to 1967, he served as the chief of Egyptian Air Force bases. During this time, Mubarak participated in the Arab-Israeli wars. In 1974, he became an Air Marshal and the Deputy Minister of Defense.

Political Career
In 1978, Mubarak joined the leadership of the ruling National Democratic Party in Egypt. Two years later, he became its General Secretary. From April 1975 to October 1981, he served as the Vice President of Egypt and was a trusted associate of the head of state, Anwar Sadat.
Presidency
After Sadat's assassination on October 6, 1981, Mubarak was elected as the President of Egypt in a referendum. He was re-elected four times and became one of the most influential politicians in the Middle East, with his opinions being listened to worldwide, including by Palestinians and Israelis.
Personal Life
In 1978, Mubarak married and has two sons, both of whom graduated from the American University in Cairo.
