Biography of Grachya Javakhyan
Early Life and Boxing CareerGrachya Javakhyan, an Armenian boxer, began his boxing journey at the tender age of 14 under the tutelage of renowned Armenian coach Gevorg Misakyan. His exceptional talent became evident as he emerged as a multiple-time Armenian champion.
International Success
In 2005, Javakhyan joined the Armenian national team, embarking on a remarkable international career. In 2006, he clinched a silver medal at the European Championships, followed by a historic bronze medal at the 2008 Olympic Games in the lightweight category. Remarkably, his only defeats in both tournaments came at the hands of the two-time Olympic champion, Alexei Tischenko.
Transition to First Welterweight
Determined to push his limits, Javakhyan made a strategic decision to move up to the first welterweight division after a disappointing performance at the World Championships in Milan. His debut in this new weight class at the European Championships in Moscow proved to be a resounding triumph. He showcased his dominance, winning all five of his bouts and capturing the coveted title of European Champion.
