The Chronicles of Charon: A Band Borne of Obsession

Chronicles is an alternative band whose members are eternally consumed by an unyielding fixation: an unwavering belief, guiding principles, intimate convictions, relentless aspirations, moral obligations, or physical addictions. In essence, they are chronic sufferers, individuals for whom their passion has become an incurable affliction.

The Origin of "Charon's Chronicles"

The name "Charon's Chronicles" arose from a serendipitous encounter with a book entitled "Chronicles of Charon." This tome delved into the mysteries of death, a subject that had long captivated the band's lead vocalist and songwriter. Inspired by the title, the band adopted it as a reflection of their preoccupation with the inevitable and the existential questions it raises.

Charon: The Unfortunate Boatman of the Underworld

Charon, a figure from ancient Greek mythology, served as the ferryman of the dead, guiding the souls of the departed across the treacherous rivers Acheron and Styx. A solitary and solitary figure, he was portrayed as an unsightly and unfortunate old man, consumed by his morbid task.

The Band's Genesis: A Quest for Like-Minded Musicians

The desire to form a band took hold after the lead singer began pouring his thoughts into verse. However, the task of finding musicians who shared their vision proved challenging. Some possessed talent but lacked the necessary drive, while others had conflicting musical aspirations or were simply unsuited for the band's unconventional style.

The Trio: The Foundation of Charon's Chronicles

Undeterred, the lead singer sought help from a friend, who introduced him to Anton Zharubin. Together, they formed the nucleus of the band, rehearsing in a makeshift studio known as "the chicken coop." Eventually, they were joined by Yunis Volkov, who brought his guitar skills and shared the band's affinity for heavy metal.

The Quartet: A Drummer Joins the Fold

With the addition of a drummer, Danila Komzin, the band's sound finally coalesced. Komzin's exceptional rhythmic abilities brought a dynamic element to their performances.

A Memorable Debut: The Concert that Defined Them

On March 20, 2001, Chronicles made their public debut at the Student Cultural Center of Yakutsk State University. Despite the formidable presence of a conservative jury, the band delivered a performance that left an indelible mark on the audience. Their unconventional blend of raw emotion and introspective lyrics cemented their status as a band that dared to confront the darker aspects of human existence.
