Biography of Julio Bocca
Julio Bocca, an Argentine dancer, was born in 1967. He began learning ballet at the age of four under the guidance of his mother, Nancy Bocca. In 1974, he enrolled in the Higher Institute of Theater Arts at Colon and at the age of 15, he was already performing on the stages of Venezuela and Brazil.
Rise to Fame
Bocca gained fame in 1985 when he won the V International Ballet Artists Competition in Moscow. After seeing a recording of his performance, Mikhail Baryshnikov invited the Argentine dancer to join the American Ballet Theater, where he became a principal dancer within a year. Bocca's talent was also recognized by the Royal Ballet of Great Britain, La Scala, and almost all the leading ballet companies around the world. He was well-loved in Russia and performed on the stages of the Bolshoi and Mariinsky Theaters in Boris Eifman's productions.
International Recognition
In 1990, the Colon Theater named Bocca as their representative abroad. It was during this time that he founded the "Argentine Ballet" troupe, which toured worldwide. After seven years, Julio established his own theater studio. He also participated in the famous Bob Fosse musicals "Cabaret" and "Chicago" on Broadway. In 2002, he created the show "Bocca Tango."
Retirement and World Tour
The renowned Argentine dancer recently announced his departure from the big ballet stage. Before leaving the scene, he will embark on a global tour, with a program consisting of 180 performances. The tour will conclude in December in Buenos Aires, his hometown.
