Early Career

Umberto Estevam Borges, commonly known as Borges, is a Brazilian professional footballer who plays as a forward for Brazilian club Ponte Preta. Borges spent the early part of his career playing for lesser-known clubs in the lower divisions of Brazilian football.

Rise to Prominence

In 2004, Borges joined São Caetano, a club that was then one of the strongest teams in Brazil. In 2005, while playing for Paraná, he emerged as the second-highest goal-scorer in the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A with 19 goals, just three goals behind legendary striker Romário.

Stint in Japan

Borges briefly ventured to Japan, where he became the top scorer in the second division.

Success with São Paulo

Upon returning to Brazil, Borges joined an ascending São Paulo side. In 2007, he shared the club's top scorer title with Dagoberto and Rogério Ceni, contributing seven goals to their league campaign.

In 2008, Borges recorded 10 goals in the Campeonato Paulista and 16 goals in the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A, including a hat-trick against Portuguesa on November 8, 2008. São Paulo claimed the league title that year, and Borges was named to the league's "Best XI" and received the Bola de Prata (Silver Ball) award.

In 2009, Borges became São Paulo's top scorer in the Copa Libertadores. With three rounds remaining in the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A, São Paulo led the standings.

Move to Grêmio

In 2010, Borges and his São Paulo teammate Leandro transferred to Grêmio. He made his debut for Grêmio against Pelotas.
