Early Career
Eunice Jepkemei is a Kenyan steeplechaser. Her initial focus was on the 5000 metres, and she placed fifth at the 2011 Kenyan Championships.
Rise to Prominence
At the 2011 All-Africa Games, Jepkemei surprised herself by winning the 3000 metres steeplechase in a time of 10:00.50. She also took fourth place in the 5000 metres.
International Success
In 2012, Jepkemei switched her full attention to steeplechase, improving her time to 9:23.53. She earned her first IAAF Diamond League points with a third-place finish at the Weltklasse Zürich. At the Kenyan Championships, she finished second and qualified for the African Championships, where she won bronze.
Olympic Journey
Jepkemei finished fifth at the Kenyan Olympic trials, just missing out on qualification for the London 2012 Games. In 2013, she placed sixth at the World Championships with a personal best of 9:22.05. She also achieved a world ranking of seventh that year.
Breakthrough Season
In 2015, Jepkemei set a new personal record of 9:15.08 at the Golden Gala in Rome. She finished second behind Virginia Nyambura at the British Grand Prix in Birmingham, securing her first podium finish in the Diamond Race.
Olympic Medals
At the 2016 Rio Olympics, Jepkemei won the silver medal with a time of 9:07.12, behind Ruth Jebet. In Tokyo 2020, she earned a bronze medal, finishing behind Peruth Chemutai and Courtney Frerichs.
