Following her marriage, Fikotová became a citizen of the United States and began competing for the American team. She dominated the sport, winning the national championships in 1957, 1960, 1962, 1964, and 1968.

Fikotová represented the United States in multiple Olympic Games. After finishing 7th in 1960, she placed 12th in Tokyo in 1964 and 6th in Mexico City in 1968. In her final Olympic appearance in Munich in 1972, she carried the American flag as the team's standard-bearer but did not qualify for the final.
