Biography of Ian Glen

Ian Glen is a Scottish actor of theater, film, and television. He is best known for his roles in the "Resident Evil" film series and as Jorah Mormont in the television series "Game of Thrones".

Early Life and Education:
Glen was born in Edinburgh, Scotland and attended the Edinburgh Academy, an independent school for boys. He later studied at the University of Aberdeen before moving to the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London, where he received the Bancroft Gold Medal.

Career:
In 1990, Glen won the Silver Bear for Best Actor at the Berlin International Film Festival for his role in "Silent Scream". That same year, he played the role of Hamlet in Tom Stoppard's "Rosencrantz and Guilderstern are Dead", which won the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival. Glen was nominated for an Olivier Award for his role in "The Blue Room" alongside Nicole Kidman. He received a second Olivier Award nomination for his role in "Martin Guerre".

In 2009, Glen landed the role of Jorah Mormont in the television adaptation of George R. R. Martin's "Game of Thrones". He also appeared in the popular series "Downton Abbey" as Sir Richard Carlisle. Glen has portrayed antagonistic characters in film adaptations of the "Resident Evil" series and "Lara Croft: Tomb Raider".

In 2012, he starred in the BBC television series "Prisoners' Wives" and voiced characters in the radio adaptation of Alexandre Dumas' "The Count of Monte Cristo". Glen recently appeared in the stage production of "Fortune's Fool" at The Old Vic theater in London.

Personal Life:
Ian Glen is the younger brother of theater director Hamish Glen, who currently works at the Belgrade Theatre in Coventry. He was previously married to Susannah Harker from 1993 to 2004, and they have a son named Finlay. He is currently in a relationship with actress Charlotte Emmerson, and they have two daughters born in 2007 and 2012.
