Early Life and EducationIan McShane was born on September 29, 1942, in Blackburn, Lancashire, England. His parents, Irene (née Cowley) and Harry McShane, initially envisioned their son pursuing a professional football career with Manchester United. However, destiny had a different path in store for him. McShane grew up in Urmston and attended Stretford Grammar School.
Acting Career
After completing his training at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, McShane made his film debut in the 1962 melodrama "The Wild and the Willing." He rose to prominence with his portrayal of Judas in the 1977 television series "Jesus of Nazareth." McShane's breakthrough role came in 2004, when he played Al Swearengen in the Western series "Deadwood." This performance earned him a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Television Series - Drama.
McShane has starred in over 100 films, including "Nine Lives," "Kung Fu Panda" (as the voice of Tai Lung), "Shrek the Third," "SpongeBob SquarePants," "Coraline," and "The Golden Compass."

In addition to his illustrious film career, McShane is also an acclaimed theater actor.
