Early Life and Career
Ignat Zemchenko was born in Kiev, Ukraine, the son of hockey player Sergei Zemchenko. He began playing hockey at the age of four with the Kiev Sokol youth system. When his family moved to Spain, he continued to play hockey for seven years. upon returning to Russia, he joined the Krylya Sovetov Moscow youth system.
Professional Career
Zemchenko made his professional debut in 2009 with the Almaz team in the Youth Hockey League (MHL). He was drafted 10th overall in the 2009 KHL Draft by Severstal Cherepovets. In his first season with Severstal, he played primarily in the KHL but also made his MHL debut with Almaz.
Kontinental Hockey League
In the 2010-11 season, Zemchenko established himself as a regular in the KHL with Severstal. He scored his first KHL goal on December 8, 2010, against Atlant Moscow. In the 2012-13 season, he was part of the silver medal-winning Russian team at the World Junior Championships.
VHL and Later Career
Zemchenko left Severstal after the 2013-14 season and joined Metallurg Novokuznetsk in the VHL. He has since spent the majority of his career in the VHL, playing for various teams. He has also represented Russia at the international level, competing in the Universiade and other tournaments.
