Biography of Ignat Konovalov

Ignat Konovalov, a Lithuanian road cyclist, was born in Panevezys, Lithuania to cycling coach Valeriy Konovalov and cyclist Laima Zilporite. Following in his parents' footsteps, Konovalov pursued track and road cycling and became a medalist in the European Junior Championship team pursuit.

Moving to France and Professional Career

In 2006, Konovalov moved to France, and the following year, he joined the "Crédit Agricole" team. In 2008, he obtained his professional license and started competing for the main team. In 2009, Konovalov transferred to the newly formed Swiss team, "Cervélo TestTeam".

Triumphant Victory at Giro d'Italia

In May, Konovalov participated in his first multi-day race, Giro d'Italia, and achieved a remarkable success. He took the leadership in the final stage, but nearly a hundred participants were yet to finish. Unfortunately, heavy rain made the track slippery, causing Denis Menchov, the last rider to start, to fall. As a result, Konovalov emerged as the winner. While he hasn't achieved similar successes on the international stage yet, by the age of 25, he had already become the four-time champion of Lithuania in the individual time trial.

Move to Team Movistar

After the dissolution of "Cervélo", Konovalov joined the "Team Movistar".
