Biography of Igor Pavlyuk
Igor Pavlyuk is a Ukrainian writer and researcher. He was born on January 1, 1967, in the village of Uzhova in the Rožyščensky district of the Volyn region. Tragically, his mother passed away just a few days after his birth, and he was raised by his maternal grandparents.
Early Life
Pavlyuk studied at the Leningrad Higher Military Engineering and Construction School (LVVISKU, now VITU), where he controversially left during his second year to pursue writing poetry. He later worked on building a road in the Transbaikal taiga region. In 1986-1987, he worked as a correspondent for the Kivertsivska district newspaper in Volyn.
Education and Career
In 1987, Pavlyuk enrolled in the journalism faculty of Ivan Franko Lviv State University, from which he graduated with honors in 1992. After completing his studies, he worked in religious media and hosted radio programs. He has been living in Lviv since 1987 and moved to Kyiv in 2003.
In 1996, Pavlyuk defended his candidate dissertation on the topic "Artist - Power - Press: Historical and Typological Analysis" at the Institute of Journalism of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. In 2009, he obtained his doctorate from the same institution with a dissertation titled "Ukrainian-language Press of Volyn, Polesia, Kholmshchyna, and Podlachia, 1917-2000, as a Structural Part of the National Information Space."
Pavlyuk has worked as a researcher at the Periodicals Research Center of the V. Stefanyk Lviv National Scientific Library of Ukraine (1993-2004), a lecturer at Ivan Franko Lviv National University, a senior researcher at the Institute of Francophone Studies of the same university, and the head of the literary studio "Frankova Kuznitsa" (Franko's Forge).
Accomplishments
In 1999 and 2000, Pavlyuk went on a creative trip to the United States. He has participated in international literary festivals and meetings in Georgia, Russia, Belarus, Poland, Turkey, Ireland, and other countries. Currently, he holds the position of senior researcher at the Taras Shevchenko Institute of Literature of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in Kyiv and is a professor at the National University "Ostroh Academy" in Ostrih, Rivne region.
Pavlyuk is a member of the editorial boards of the journals "Teren," "Zolota Pektoral," and "Dzvin." Several of his books have been illustrated by Ukrainian People's Artist Ivan Skolozdroi (1934-2008) and Nikolai Kumanovsky.
