Early Life and Education

1 August 1918:Ivan Matveevich Shishkan was born in the village of Mogilevo, now part of the Tsarychansky district in the Dnipropetrovsk region, into a peasant family.

Completion of Elementary School:Shishkan completed his elementary and secondary education in his hometown before moving on to the Zootechnical College.

Dnepropetrovsk State University:He then attended Dnepropetrovsk State University, where he furthered his education.

Military Career

1937:Shishkan joined the ranks of the Red Army.

1940:He graduated from the Chuguev Military Aviation School for Pilots.

World War II:

From the first day of the war, Shishkan defended Leningrad:He flew on countless combat sorties and participated in numerous aerial battles.

By December 1942, he had achieved remarkable success:As Deputy Commander of the squadron in the 158th Fighter Regiment, he had flown 373 combat missions and personally shot down 12 enemy aircraft and 2 in group combat.

28 January 1943:For his exceptional courage and bravery in battles, Shishkan was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union.

Zenith of Glory

16 Aircraft Shot Down:By 1943, Shishkan had reached the peak of his military achievements, having personally shot down 16 enemy aircraft.
