Early Life and Military Service

Born into a humble peasant family, Grigory Samoilovichinitially worked as a teacher in a rural school. As the First World War erupted, he was mobilized and enrolled in the Odessa Military School, graduating in 1916. He served as a lieutenant commanding a company on the Romanian Front.

Revolutionary Involvement and Bolshevik Officer

After the February Revolution, Samoilovich became a member of the regimental committee and later chairman of the executive committee of soldiers' deputies in Kishinev. He joined the Bolshevik Party in February 1918 and held various military positions, including commandant of the Odessa Military District and assistant military leader of the Voronezh Provincial Military Commissariat.

Staff Officer and Divisional Commander

From July 1919, Samoilovich served as chief of staff of the 45th Rifle Division. In 1921, he became chief of staff of the commander of the armed forces of Ukraine and Crimea, and later chief of staff of a division. From 1922 to 1923, he commanded a division.

Advanced Military Education and Corps Leadership

In 1924, Samoilovich completed advanced military courses. He commanded a corps from 1924 to 1928 and 1930 to 1931. From 1928 to 1930, he served as head of the Command Administration of the RKKA General Staff.

Leningrad and Ural Military Districts

From 1931 to 1935, Samoilovich was assistant and later deputy commander of the Leningrad Military District. In 1935, he was appointed commander of troops of the newly established Ural Military District and became a member of the Military Council under the People's Commissar of Defense of the USSR.

Arrest, Trial, and Execution

In March 1937, Samoilovich was arrested as part of the "Tukhachevsky Case." He confessed under duress and was sentenced to death on July 1. On the same day, he was executed at the Kommunarka firing range.

Rehabilitation

Grigory Samoilovich was fully rehabilitated in 1956, restoring his honor and legacy as a dedicated military officer.
