Soviet Military Commander

Ivan Fedorovich Dashichev was a Soviet military commander who rose to the rank of Major General in the Red Army. Born into a peasant family in the village of Timonovka, Bryansk, he graduated from the Bryansk Technical School in 1915.

Military Career

Dashichev joined the Russian Imperial Army in 1915 and graduated from the Chuguevsk Military School as a Sub-Lieutenant. In 1918, he joined the Red Army and fought in the Eastern Front of the Russian Civil War as the Assistant Chief of Staff of the 27th Omsk Rifle Division. In March 1920, he was transferred to the Western Front, taking part in the Soviet-Polish War.

Decorations and Achievements

For his bravery and courage, Dashichev received two Orders of the Red Banner for his actions in leading the 80th Brigade out of encirclement near the village of Dolubovo and in other battles. He also participated in suppressing the Kronstadt Rebellion in March 1921, earning a third Red Banner Order for his heroism and courage in street fighting.

Interwar Period and Soviet-Finnish War

Between the wars, Dashichev served as an Adjutant to the Commander of a Rifle Battalion, Assistant Chief of Staff, and Chief of Staff of a Rifle Brigade. He also commanded the 35th Rifle Division and served as Assistant Commander of the 2nd Rifle Corps. He graduated from the M.V. Frunze Military Academy in 1927 and its Operational Faculty in 1933. From August 1939 to January 1940, he led the 47th Rifle Corps of the Leningrad Military District, participating in the Soviet-Finnish War.

World War II

With the outbreak of World War II, Dashichev's corps participated in the border battles in Moldova and defensive operations along the Prut, Dniester, and Southern Bug rivers. On July 24, 1941, he was promoted to Major General. From September 11, 1941, he took command of the 9th Rifle Corps, which fought in the Crimean and Kerch-Feodosia operations.

Controversies and Rehabilitation

In January 1942, Dashichev was temporarily assigned to command the 44th Army in Crimea after its commander was severely wounded. However, he was accused of losing control of his troops and arrested on January 21, 1942. He was convicted of negligence and sentenced to four years in prison with a suspended sentence. Later, the Supreme Soviet Presidium pardoned him and reinstated his awards but reduced his military rank.

Final Years

After his реабилиattion in 1953, Dashichev was reinstated as a Major General in the Soviet Army. He retired in February 1954 and passed away in Moscow on April 24, 1963. His son, Vyacheslav Ivanovich Dashichev, became a renowned historian and military veteran.
