Early Life and Education
Imelda Staunton was born on January 9th, 1956, in North London. Her parents, Bridie and Joseph Staunton, were first-generation Catholic immigrants from County Mayo, Ireland. Staunton attended La Sainte Union Convent School from the ages of seven to eleven, where she developed a passion for the arts and dreamt of becoming an actress.
She later studied acting at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. After graduating, she performed on stage in England, including at the Northcott Theatre. Upon returning to London, Staunton's theater career spanned plays by Goldoni to Frank McGuinness, with her final role being in "There Came a Gypsy Riding" in 2007.
