Ingunda: Queen of the Franks
Ingunda was the first wife of King Chlothar I of the Franks. She was the daughter of King Chlodomer II of Worms and Arnegunde of Saxony. Her name, Ingunda, means "warrior of Ingwaz" in Old Germanic.
Sisterly Rivalry
Ingunda was also the sister of Chlothar I's second wife, Arnegunde. According to Gregory of Tours in his "History of the Franks," Ingunda once approached her husband with a request to find a suitable and wealthy husband for her sister. However, Chlothar deemed no one worthy enough and eventually married Arnegunde himself.
