Early Life and Family

Joanna Katarzyna Radziwiłł was born into a prominent aristocratic family in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. Her father was Aleksander Ludwik Radziwiłł, the Grand Marshal of Lithuania, and her mother was Tekla Anna Wołłowicz. Joanna had seven brothers and four sisters.

Marriages

In 1652, Joanna married Jakub Wejcher, the voivode of Malbork. They had one daughter together. After Wejcher's death in 1657, Joanna remarried in 1658 to Bogusław Leszczyński, the Grand Treasurer of the Crown and Underchancellor of the Crown. This marriage remained childless.

Physical Beauty and Suitor

Joanna was known for her exceptional beauty. Her brother, Michał Kazimierz, attempted to arrange her marriage to Jan Sobieski, who was his brother-in-law. However, Sobieski was infatuated with Marysieńka Sobieska, who was already married.

Rumors and Suspicions

After Joanna's death, Marysieńka's husband, Zamoyski, also died, leading to speculations that Marysieńka was responsible for his demise. These rumors tarnished her reputation.

Legacy

Joanna's legacy is preserved through a portrait-mezzotint that is currently housed in the National Museum in Warsaw, Poland.
